Having made the changes to the deck I took it for a ride.

It performed horribly, mostly. I had matchups against BW life-loss, Boros, Boros with land destruction and White weenie. I have identified 2 main problems with the deck.

Problem 1

When you’re running a deck that prevents damage, what do you do about life-loss? Let me tell you: you die. Sorin Markov, Tainted Sigel, Sanguine Bond. This deck is a really bad match up but I’m putting it down to a quandary that needs to be solved rather than an auto-scoop but it’s a deck I’m likely to play against reasonably often so I’d like to solve the quandary.

Problem 2

The deck has serious mana issues. It simply does not have enough white mana available and too much blue. The deck is actually much more in White than at first appears. It’s running Day of Judgement, for God’s sake! This card may very well see play in the same turn as a Luminarch Ascension. DoJ often needs to be followed up with Silence on the opponent’s turn. One White source really does not cut it. (It’s funny how White seems to be an invisible colour in deck building, or is that just for me?) Green seems just about balanced considering I’m ostensibly splashing it for four Fogs. I made a trade last night to get a pair of Sunpetal Groves which will replace one Island and one Forest.

Overall I did not have a good time last night. I had a 1-3 record, got splattered by fast aggro and life loss and land destruction keep me off my balance. I need to focus on my mana base and I need find answers to life loss and annoying permanents like Pithing Needle and Oblivion Ring.
